MOPU RUBICONE

2011 – 2013

MOPU RUBICONE was transformed from a jack-up drilling unit into a mobile offshore production unit (MOPU) at a Singapore shipyard in 2011 to serve a contract with client Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd at Bekok-C platform, Malaysia. The unit was refurbished and underwent life extension through renewal of leg to mat connections, steel renewal on hull, mat and legs, blasting and painting. The drilling equipment and its associated equipment that was previously on the unit were removed.

MOPU RUBICONE had the capacity to manage 165 MMscf/day of gas and 6000 bbls/day of crude oil production.

At the Singapore shipyard, the following works were carried out :

  • Complete refurbishment of marine systems including secondary diesel power generators, dedicated firewater pump engines, emergency generators, water makers, sewage systems, 2 cranes (one fit for man riding) etc.
  • 60’ leg extensions and complete refurbishment of jacking system
  • Drill slot closure to allow for increased main deck space.
  • Installation of a linking bridge and process bridge for access between MOPU to Bekok-C platform. Process bridge complete with flexib le hose tie in points for hydrocarbon import/export.
  • Hull underdeck strengthening upon successful completion of vibration analysis
  • Installation of 1 x 100% 100 mmscfd booster compressors
  • Installation of 1 x 100% 165 mmscfd export compressor
  • Installation of 2 x 100% gas engine generators.
  • Installation of separation modules, slug catcher, glycol dehydration and regeneration and fuel gas conditioning skid.

Other scopes undertaken were the towing and installation of the platform as well as the hook up and commissioning of the platform. The start-up was successfully conducted in the second half of 2011 and upon acceptance, the MOPU entered its Operations and Maintenance phase. On September 2013, the MOPU RUBICONE was demobilized from the Bekok- C platform after 2 years of successful operations having achieved an uptime of 92% over the contract period. It was the first demob of a MOPU in Malaysia.
